Week of July 18

Georgetown Meet

We lost the meet 369-341, which was pretty close considering that we had a lot of swimmers missing from this meet. We only have one more dual meet before Championships! Results are here.

Wacky Wednesday: Tie-Dye Day

Bring your team shirt or another cotton shirt/other item on Wednesday, July 20, because we are tie-dying! The schedule is the following:

A Group: rubber band at 8:45 & dye at 10:30
B Group: rubber band at 10:00 & dye at 11:30
Chippers: rubber band at 11:00 & dye at 12:00
Divers: rubber band at 9:30 & dye at 12:00 (or earlier if you stop diving earlier)

We need help for our tie-dye event. You don’t need to know anything about tie-dying — just be willing to wear messy clothes! The more folks we have, the smoother it goes! If you can help, please sign up using SignUp Genius. Thanks!

If you volunteered to work at Championships, you get to watch the meet for free; everyone else must pay a $3 entry fee.

We are running the concessions on Thursday. If you would like to help with that, please contact Julie Fisher.

Week of July 11

Barton Meet Results

We won the meet 443-265! See complete results here.

Liberty Meet Results

We won our meet against Liberty. We actually lost the swimming portion by 2 points, but our divers pulled us ahead. You can view the swim meet results here. (The format is a little strange and doesn’t include diving.)

I truly believe that we would have won the swimming too, but we had way too many swimmers who canceled the night before, just didn’t show up on Saturday, or refused to swim the events we entered them in. This swim meet was especially chaotic for the coaches who were scrambling to make last-second changes, which made for an overall stressful meet for the coaches from both teams. You may not realize that not showing up or refusing to swim has a big impact on the coaches and the rest of the team; it goes way beyond just your experience.

We have two more dual meets before Championships. This weekend, we travel to Georgetown, 1365 King George Blvd, Ann Arbor, for both diving and swimming. Please sign up! And please show up!!

Swim-A-Cross: Wednesday, July 13

We will host a Swim-A-Cross to raise money for the American Red Cross on Wednesday. During practice, the kids will swim as many laps as they can. Before the event, please collect pledges from friends and family, which can be per lap donations or a lump sum. Pledge forms are at the pool desk. You can also create a donation page online, which makes it easier to collect pledges from far-flung family. Go to Crowdrise and click on Join the Team.

This is an awesome way to help the Red Cross and to prepare for our distance meet on July 16!

Fun Friday: Cannonball Contest, 11:30am

How big is your splash? Dive practice will end a little early so that we can show off our cannonballs and test how big each splash is with our very scientific Splash-O-Meter.

Please sign up at the pool desk by Thursday evening. Once you sign up, we expect you to attend. Call Kimmy at 734.717.9992 if a last-minute emergency arises.

Saturday, July 16: Swim Meet at Georgetown

Volunteers for Championships

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help at Championships!! We still have two more spots to fill; they are both during the 8 & Under Championships on Wednesday, July 27. I need to turn in our list of volunteers on July 13.

Wednesday, July 27 (8 & under): 1 timer and 1 runner

Why you should help: you will get to watch the meet for free from the pool deck, the coaches will take good care of your child during the meet, and you will earn our undying gratitude!!

Team T-Shirts

Our team T-shirts are in. Please find Betsy Capelli if you haven’t gotten yours yet. I’ve had a few requests for an opportunity for parents/siblings to purchase the team T-shirts. I don’t yet know how much each shirt will cost (it may depend on the size of our order) or how long it will take to get them. Please email Betsy if you are interested and I will work on getting more information.

Wacky Wednesday: Tie-Dye Day

On Wednesday, July 20, we are tie-dying! We will include more specific information in next week’s newsletter, but if you are interested in helping the kids with the rubber bands and the tie-dying, please sign up using SignUp Genius. Thanks!

Our swim opponent this week is Liberty, but they don’t have a dive team. Forestbrooke also doesn’t have a dive opponent this week. All of the points we earn go toward our meet against Liberty, and all the points Forestbrooke earns go toward their swim meet. Its’s a win-win for both teams!

Saturday, July 9: Swim Meet at Liberty

8:00am warm-ups, 9:00am start

Specialty stroke of the week: Butterfly

Please sign up at the pool desk by Thursday morning. Once you sign up, we expect you to attend and to stay for the entire meet unless excused early by a coach. Call one of the coaches (phone numbers below) if a last-minute emergency arises.

Volunteers for Championships

Every team in WISC is required to supply volunteers to help run Championships. We only need to fill 2 or 3 jobs every day, but it is critical that they are filled (or Chippewa will be fined!). There is a sign-up at the pool desk, or you can email Betsy Capelli to let me know how you can help. Our roster of volunteers is due July 13.

Monday, July 25 (13 & up): need 1 timer
Tuesday, July 26 (9-10): need a timer and someone to do labels (this job happens before the meet even starts)
Wednesday, July 27 (8 & under): 1 timer, 1 runner, and someone to do labels (this job happens before the meet even starts)
Thursday, July 28 (11-12): 2 timers and 1 marshal

Why you should help: you will get to watch the meet for free, the coaches will take good care of your child during the meet, and you will earn our undying gratitude!!

Swim-A-Cross

On Wednesday, July 13, we will host a Swim-A-Cross to raise money for the American Red Cross. During practice, the kids will swim as many laps as they can. Before the event, please collect pledges from friends and family, which can be per lap donations or a lump sum. Pledge forms are at the pool desk. This is an awesome way to help the Red Cross and to prepare for our distance meet on July 16!

Week of July 27

Swim/Dive Meet vs. Vets Park

We squeaked out our first win at the first meet of the season by only 2 points! Without the dive team, we would have lost that one. Check out the results.

We heard multiple compliments from Vets parents and coaches about how smoothly the meet was run. Thanks to all the parents who helped. It is because of YOU that we received all those compliments!

Wacky Wednesays

The next two weeks we are going to have fun Wacky Wednesday events. This Wednesday, we are going to enjoy ice cream sundaes after practice. We will begin after A practice (10:30) and continue until after Chippers & Dive practice. We need donations (by 10:15!!!!) and folks to help set-up, serve, eat leftovers, and clean up. Sign up to help or donate to the Ice Cream Sundae fun using SignUp Genius.

Next Wednesday, July 6, the kids will have easy practices, including wacky relay races, because we have a swim meet that evening. To carbo-load before the meet, we will be serving bagels and fruit. Sign up for the Bagel Breakfast using SignUp Genius.

Please choose whichever of these events best works with your schedule. Thanks!

Week of June 20

Welcome to the First Week of Swim & Dive Team!

Every week during the season, we will send out a newsletter with all the information about the activities for that week. This year, we are hosting two out of the five swim meets at Chippewa, and will need every family with a swimmer participating in the meet to help us run those meets. The jobs are easy and fun, and training will be provided when necessary. Swimmers and divers, look for the meet sign-up by the swim desk. Parents, we will use SignUp Genius for parent volunteers.

Regular Practices Start June 20

A Swim Practice: Monday-Friday, 9:00-10:30am
B Swim Practice: Monday-Friday, 10:30-11:30am
Chippers: Monday-Friday, 11:30am-12:00pm
Dive Practice: Monday-Friday, 10:00am-12:00pm

Divers: you can dive during any part of that 10-12 block. For example, if you do B swim practice, you can dive for a half-hour before swimming or a half-hour after (or both!). Coach Kimmy will miss the first few days of this week, but we have team veteran Sarah Densham filling in for her.

Did you know? You don’t have to pay anything more to be on the dive team so this is the year to try diving!!

Fun Friday: Sub Lunch and Capture the Flag, 12pm

We are ordering subs from Jersey Mike’s for lunch at noon on Friday. After lunch, the coaches will organize a game of Capture the Flag. Everyone on the Swim & Dive team is welcome and encouraged to play Capture the Flag. The sub lunch is completely optional and costs $5/person. Parents and siblings are welcome to join the lunch and/or help organize it. If you would like a sub sandwich, please sign up with one of the coaches or with Betsy Capelli. You can’t charge this to your account; we will need cash if you want to participate.
