Each meet has four events. The first event begins with the 8 & under boys, then the 8 & under girls, then the 9–10 boys, then the 9–10 girls, and so on through the age groups. The coaches will gather all of the swimmers for each event before it starts and send them to the Marshalling area. The Marshallers will tell the swimmers when to swim and direct them to the correct lanes. When the horns sounds, swim fast! The fastest swimmer in each heat wins a Heat Winner Ribbon or other prize.

What events will I swim in a meet?

The coaches will decide before each meet what you will swim (with some input from the swimmers and parents). Each swimmer may swim in up to 3 out of the 4 events per meet. The four events are (1) Medley Relay—four swimmers per team with each one swimming a different stroke (backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, and freestyle in that order); (2) Freestyle—8 & under swim 25 yards, everyone else swims 50 yards; (3) Specialty Stroke—each meet has a different specialty stroke such as backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, distance freestyle, and individual medley (IM); and (4) Freestyle Relay—four swimmers per team with each one swimming freestyle (25 yards each for 8 & under, 50 yards each for everyone else).

Where should my swimmer sit at a swim meet?

There is a designated “team area” that the swimmers should stay in or near. This is so they can hear their name being called when it is their turn to swim.

What happens at a dive meet?

Dual dive meets begin at 5:00pm on Fridays, but all divers should be at warm-ups by 4:00pm. Each meet begins with the 8 & under boys, then the 8 & under girls, then the 9–10 boys, then the 9–10 girls, and so on through the age groups. There are five groups of dives: Front, Back, Inward, Reverse and Twist, and each of these dives has several positions: straight (layout), pike and tuck, and can have somersaults and twists added as well. At a meet, divers perform the required dive of the week and a specific number of additional dives depending on their age group. The 8 & under kids do the required dive plus two additional dives. The 9 & 10s do the required dive plus three additional dives from two different groups. The 11 & 12s do the required dive plus four additional dives from three different groups. The 13 & ups do the required dive plus five additional dives from four different groups. The coach will help you decide what dives to do at each meet.

What should I do if my child gets sick the day of a meet?

If you sign up for a meet, we really expect you to come, but if you get sick, please contact the coaches ASAP because the line-up will need to be changed.

Can I swim or dive at Championships?

Anybody who has participated in at least two dual meets is eligible to compete in Championships.

How can parents help support the swim & dive team?

We need lots of parents to help run the home meets. We ask at least one parent from every family to volunteer at every home meet. There are lots of jobs that require no experience, and training will be provided for those that do. We also need help with our Fun Friday events, ribbon labels, and more!

Addresses of Other WISC Clubs

Ann Arbor Y, 400 W Washington St, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, (734) 996-9622
Barton Hills Country Club, 730 Country Club Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48105, (734) 663-8511
Buhr Park, 2751 Packard Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48108-3236, (734) 971-3228
Chapel Hill Condominiums (site of OHAC home meets), 3350 Green Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Chelsea Recreation Aquatic Club, 445 Mayer Dr, Chelsea, MI 48118
Dexter Community Aquatic Club @ Wylie Pool, 3060 Kensington St, Dexter, MI 48130
Dundee High School, 130 Viking Dr, Dundee, MI 48131
Forestbrooke Athletic Club, 2609 Yost Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, (734) 971-0709
Georgetown Country Club, 1365 King George Blvd, Ann Arbor, MI 48108-3214, (734) 971-5500
Huron Valley Swim Club, 4601 Park Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, (734) 665-8565
Liberty Athletic Club, 2975 West Liberty Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103-9072, (734) 665-3738
Lincoln High School, 7425 Willis Rd, Ypsilanti, MI 48197, (734) 484-7007
Milan High School, 200 Big Red Dr, Milan, MI 48160, (734) 439-5057
Orchard Hills Athletic Club, 2300-2398 Yorktown Dr, Ann Arbor, MI 48105
Racquet Club of Ann Arbor, 3010 Hickory Ln, Ann Arbor, MI 48104
Rutherford Pool (site of Ypsi Otters’ home meets), 975 N Congress St, Ypsilanti, MI 48197, (734) 482-4401
Saline High School, 1300 Campus Parkway, Saline, MI 48176
Skyline High School, 2552 N Maple Rd, Ann Arbor, MI 48103
Travis Pointe Country Club, 2829 Travis Pointe, Ann Arbor, MI 48108-9551, (734) 662-2582
Veterans Memorial Park, 2150 Jackson Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48103, (734) 761-7240
Whitmore Lake High School, 7430 Whitmore Lake Rd, Whitmore Lake, MI 48189
Willow Run Middle School, 235 Spencer Ln, Ypsilanti, MI 48198-4200, (734) 481-8325

Join Our Email List Swim and Dive Practices 2025 Preseason Swim Practice: Monday, June 2: 4:30-5:00pm (Chippers/Chippers wannabes), 5:00-6:00pm (A&B groups), 4:30-6:00pm (dive) Tuesday, June 3: 4:00-5:30pm (A group), 4:30-5:30pm (B group), 4:00-5:30pm (dive) Wednesday, June 4: 4:30-5:00pm (Chippers/Chippers wannabes), 5:00-6:00pm (A&B groups), 4:30-6:00pm (dive) Thursday, June 5: 4:00-5:30pm (A group), 4:30-5:30pm (B group), 4:00-5:30pm …

 Team Info Read More »
